The Vision:

At this point, the longer term vision is to set up an annual, or semi-annual, Open Market event for quality creatives, producers, practitioners, and makers to connect with their local shoppers. As for the 2024 event, the intention is for live music, food and drink options, opportunities to beat the heat, and community connections.

There are numerous Western Slope farmers markets, art markets, and other amazing events that offer a platform to support local agriculture, ranching, artists, and a wide variety of small businesses. These are incredibly effective at bringing people together and bolstering the community’s resilience and cohesion by providing face-to-face interactions, and direct product-to-consumer exchanges.

Again, these events are incredibly effective. I’m absolutely inspired by how useful they are for the community. But, an Open Market event is in no way trying to compete with these. By giving local small businesses more low risk opportunities to connect with their community, the better chances they have to prosper, which has a resounding impact on our Western Slope community as a whole. More events mean more diversification and opportunities for local shoppers and sellers alike.

An event for The Open Market is intended to be a celebration of our local abundance and an opportunity to offer community connections between local shoppers and sellers.

So far, here’s what we know for sure:

Here’s what we’re still figuring out:

Seller details:

  • Fees – The event will be free for Shoppers to shop. However, in order to pay for entertainment, we’ll be accepting optional donations (below) and selling tickets for the raffle.
    • We are encouraging Sellers to donate to the event in one of the following ways:
      • Donate $30 or more before, during or after the event. (You can hand this money directly to me (Jon), or via PayPal or Venmo or FB pay or Zelle etc.)
      • Donate $50 or more worth of your goods and/or services to be included in the raffle
      • If you choose not to donate, no worries! We’re happy just to have you show up. But, since the number of seller booths is limited to 20, sellers who donate one of the above options will have priority.
    • Also, we’re asking anyone who will be set up at this event to help advertise on social media and/or whatever way works best for you.

Right now, there’s just one sponsorship tier, and it’s $100 or more to buy in. This would include:

  • Your name or business name proudly displayed on fliers, social media mentions, and banners during the event.
  • Any sponsorship waives any sort of seller fees if a sponsor would like to have a seller booth at the event.
  • Any sponsorship automatically enters you in to the raffle.
  • All cash collected from the event’s sponsors will be used for event entertainment and event marketing.

Raffle Details

Shoppers (or shopping Sellers) will be able to pay in to a raffle to win any of the donated goods and/or services from The Open Market’s Sellers.

  • Raffle tickets are $10/ ticket, and the ticket limit is 10.
  • So far, there have been no donations for the raffle.
