Have you heard of the urban legend pertaining to the Grand Valley? If not here’s a quick rundown. Legend says if you want to move from this valley you must collect the dirt from 4 major areas. The Bookcliffs, Grand Mesa, CO Nat Monument, and the junction of the CO and Gunnison River.
Here is an explanation of the layers I have here from top to bottom:
Brown – Soil and botanicals from the Grand Mesa National Forest
Red- Dirt from (same formation but different area – outdoor ethics) the National Monument
Black – The top of the Bookcliffs near De Beque
Yellow/Orange – The summit of Mt. Garfield (because why not)
Now, you may notice I am missing one other thing. In order to complete the jar you must find one small pebble near the junction of the CO and Gunnison river. I will do the hard parts for you but this part is up to you. The legend states if you do not keep this jar with you when you leave you will be cursed and you are BOUND to return to the valley. Do you accept this challenge?
