A – Main Menu Button : quick and easy navigation around the site. It’s pretty much got everything you’ll need at your disposal.

B – Home Button: this button will take you right back to The Open Market’s home page.

C – Search Button: click here to search through The Open Market. Filter by product, categories, locations, Sellers, etc.

D – Wishlist Button: save and keep track of what you’d be interested in.

E – Login Button & Account Button: if you’re not logged in, you’ll be sent to the login page, where you can either login or register. If you are logged in, this button will take you directly to your account page. Same button, two purposes.

The Open Market is fully functional, but there are a couple sections that are admittedly lacking, or just outright incomplete and/or incredibly sloppy (in my opinion! See if you can find them.) I have every intention of tidying things up in due time. But, my main focus is getting the ball rolling.

For the time being, The Open Market Admin Team would happily set up and manage your entire account if you’re not feeling up to the task, and I'd be happy to walk you through any or every one of the steps involved. I very strongly believe in what The Open Market is capable of, and I’m fully aware that it may take a while for it to catch on. I would HAPPILY help my neighbors where I can. Welcome to The Open Market’s Site guide for navigating around the site. This guide covers general functionalities, but it can serve as an excellent starting point for learning your way around The Open Market as either a Shopper, or a Seller!

The Open Market was strongly influenced by some incredible aspects of some popular ecommerce sites. The structure and workflow should feel familiar to you if you’ve done any online shopping at all. That being said, new technologies always have some degree of a learning curve, but it’s well worth the time for us to walk through the details.

Login

There are a several links that will send you to the Login and Registration page (if you’re logged in, this same page is where you’ll find your Account details.); but, three of the main buttons that will link you to this page are found on every page within The Open Market:

  • at the top right of the page in the header:
  • at the top left of the page in the main menu’s hamburger button:
  • at the bottom right of the page in the navigation button:

Once you’re at the Login or Register page, you’ll be given some options:

A – Email enter your login email.

B – Passwordenter your password here.

C – Lost your password – this will send you to a backend page that looks like this, which doesn’t look anything like The Open Market. Don’t be alarmed. If you’ve lost access to your email, you’ll need to contact The Open Market Support Center.

D – Remember me – this keep you logged in to the site, so you won’t need to log back in every time you visit, unless you clear your history, or if The Open Market does a soft reset – which may happen from time to time to ensure the site is running optimally and securely.

E – Login Button this button should send you straight to your Account Details page, unless you’ve entered the wrong password, lost access to your account, or do not have an account.

F – Shopper Registration this link will send you to the registration page, where shoppers can create an account. Click here for more!

G – Seller Registration This link will send you to the Seller Incentives page, where you’ll be given details of the perks and opportunities of being an Open Market Seller. Sellers must register as a Shopper before they can register as a Seller. Click here for more!

Shopper Registration

On The Open Market, Shopper accounts are the standard accounts, and a Seller account is just a Shopper account with access to more site functionalities. All Sellers must start with a Shopper account before registering as a Seller.

At the Shopper Registration page you’ll find a simple form with the following fields:

Display Name: enter your own custom display name. Spaces and special characters are allowed, but you must choose a unique display name. If your desired display name is taken, you are allowed to change your public display name after registration in your Account Details. Your display name is what you’ll be publicly known as when you review a product, submit an Open Market Pay form, etc. This CAN be changed later.

  • (Sellers: this field doesn’t need to be your intended Seller display name, but it will probably make your Open Market experience much simpler and smoother. Click here for more!)

Location Data: town and state are required.

Email: enter a valid email address.

Password: enter your password. We recommend using 8 or more characters with a mix of letters, numbers & symbols.

Register Button: submit the form to become an Open Market Shopper. If there are any issues with your input information above, you’ll see a warning after clicking this button. As soon as the form is successfully submitted, you’ll be directed to your Account Details page.

Account

At your Account Page you can update:

  • your password.
  • your name, which won’t be publicly displayed.
  • your display name, which will be publicly displayed.
  • your email, which is for your login, notification and your subscriptions.

Or, you can log out. Reach out to The Open Market Support Center if you’d like to delete your account.

Navigation Button – quickly and easily find your way through The Open Market with this floating button that’s ALWAYS in the bottom right hand of every mobile, desktop, and tablet screen. (Sellers: this button or its features are not found in the Seller Dashboard.) Simply press the button, and you’ll be given a list of icons to choose from to quickly navigate around The Open Market.

Depending on what kind of Open Market user you are, you will have different links within the Navigation button. Each button configuration was carefully selected to allow each kind of user to more effeciently navigate The Open Market. There are 3 kinds of Open Market users: Logged-off (no account), Shoppers, and Sellers.


Logged-off Users without an account will see this button configuration.

Sellers will see this button configuration. Since Seller accounts are essentially Shopper accounts with some added features, you’ll notice that this button configuration is just a couple more buttons added to the Shopper list.

Settings

On the Settings Page there are a few options which customize the user experience at The Open Market:

  • Accessibility Settings (these have not been optimized for the site):
    • Toggle High Contrast: this is for anyone who might have trouble with the site’s default color scheme, and would like to look at something different. Again, this is terribly optimized for The Open Market. A proper Dark Mode is first on the list of things to do as soon as some important features and workflows get established around here.
    • Toggle Font Size: this just zooms every individual thing on the site in quite a bit. There are only two modes, On and Off. It’s also not optimized, and is also on the same list as above. However, while building The Open Market, several phones, tablets, and computers were used with various operating systems and I think it would be safe to say that regardless of how high or low your magnification settings, the site should look pretty good.
    • For either of the above, or for any matter at all, please do not hesitate to reach out to The Open Market Support Center if you’ve got any special requests, comments, or questions. We’d love to hear from you.
  • Email Subscription Management: here you can manage your subscription to The Open Market’s optional Newsletter, which features Blog updates, events, sales announcements, etc.? Site notifications can’t be unsubscribed from. Subscription management is only available to online users.

Support Center

While building The Open Market, I’ve regularly pulled inspiration from the varied assortment of neighbors I’ve had while living in several areas throughout Colorado’s West Slope. A key ingredient I’ve found to a successful report with these people is to first listen, and then to respond. I’ve tried to set up The Open Market Center to do just that, as simply and effectively as possible.

Once you arrive to the Support Center, you’ll see a few resources that may have an immediate answer for you:

  • The Search bar on the support page is set up to search all of The Open Market reference pages like the guides, FAQ, policies, etc. This does not search for products, categories, sellers, etc. (Most of the pages within the site map.)
  • The yellow dropdown Site Map Button is the same one you’ll find at the top of all of the guides, but it will show a full list of The Open Market pages that aren’t products, sellers, etc.

Once you’ve decided that you’ll be better served to submit a Support Ticket, you’ll be able to scroll down where you’ll find a simple form:

  • Name: this can be your display name, business name, first name, middle school nickname, alter ego, favorite musican, mountain, Pokemon… or any name, really. Just choose any name that you’d like for the Support team to address you by.
  • Email: this is where we’ll be sending our response to your inquiry. Be sure you’ll be able to find it without much trouble.
  • User Status: select one of the options that applies to your user status and what kind of question you have. The options here are Unregistered, Shopper, and Seller. Depending on how you answer here, you will have a different set of options to choose from for a subject.
  • Subject: select from one of the message’s subject options to help the Support team better organize and respond to your inquiry. If you don’t see the relevant subject option, select “Other”. There are several options, and you can only select one, but don’t feel limited to only discussing one subject in the message.
  • Message: here you’ll write out a detailed and message about your inquiry. We ask that you be detailed and to the point; and to keep your cool. Please include any relevant information like links, reference numbers, screenshots (below), etc. NEVER SEND PRIVATE INFORMATION LIKE CREDIT CARD NUMBERS, PASSWORDS, ETC.
  • File upload: here you can upload pictures, spreadsheets, pdfs, word documents, and more!
